You can have bbq sauce and eat it too, even on a low-carb diet. Make my Sugar Free Low Carb BBQ Sauce and store it in your fridge. Homemade condiments are typically less expensive and have fewer undesirable ingredients.

Yes, they take a bit of time to prepare, but the more you make them, the faster you'll be at doing so. The benefit is that you won't be ingesting soybean oil or preservatives.

Not to mention, homemade bbq sauce on wings is far superior to the bottled sauce.

Sugar-Free BBQ Sauce Sweetener Options

To make BBQ Sauce, you’ll need to use a sweetener to get the flavor right. Barbecue sauce tends to contain either sugar or high fructose corn syrup. Neither of which are part of a low-carb lifestyle.

Your options for sweeteners include erythritol, allulose, stevia, monk fruit, and even the THM brand sweeteners.

For those following a Ketogenic Diet, this keto bbq sauce is your new go-to for chicken wings and burgers. It makes a delicious dipping sauce for meatballs and kabobs.

My BBQ Sauce recipe has a tangy sweetness that can be easily adjusted to suit your taste preferences.

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup Nutiva Organic Red Palm Oil
  • 3 cloves Garlic (minced)
  • ⅓ cup Onion (diced)
  • 3 tbsp BBQ seasoning blend *see note
  • ⅓ cup powdered erythritol (if you like less sweet start with 1/4 cup)
  • ½ cup apple cider vinegar
  • 6 oz organic tomato paste

Instructions

  • Put red palm oil in a saucepan, sauté the onions and garlic until they're translucent.
  • Add in all other ingredients and simmer for 15 minutes,
  • Stir occasionally until the mix has thickened.
  • Allow mixture to cool, then blend until smooth.

Notes

You can find my Dry BBQ Rub Recipe at this link, but I've copied it here to make it easier for you. This mixture can be used dry or in wet bbq sauce recipes.
  • 1/2 cup paprika
  • 1/4 cup Mineral salt
  • 1/2 cup organic powdered sugar substitute made with erythritol-stevia blend or coconut sugar
  • 2 tablespoons mustard seed powder
  • 1/4 cup chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 2 tablespoons coarse ground black pepper
  • 1/4 cup granulated garlic
  • 1/4 cup onion powder
  • 1/2 tablespoon cayenne, you can use less if you prefer less spice or for kids who don't like spicy foods, keep it under 1/2 tablespoon.
To use as a dry rub, simply rub the mixture into the meat you are about to prepare, let it sit for 10 minutes to several hours, depending on how much time you have. I use this on sockeye salmon, and it is always a hit!

BBQ Rub & BBQ Sauce Recipe 3

Makes 12 servings
serving size 2 tablespoons

  • ¼ cup Nutiva Organic Red Palm Oil
  • 3 large cloves Garlic (minced)
  • ⅓ cup Onion (diced)
  • 3 tablespoons BBQ seasoning blend above
  • 1/3 cup powdered erythritol (I prefer 1/4 cup but I don't like my food really sweet, most people prefer their BBQ sauce a little sweeter)
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 6 oz tomato paste (I prefer organic, you can buy it by the case at Costco)
  1. Put red palm oil in a saucepan, sauté the onions and garlic until they're translucent.
  2. Add in all other ingredients and simmer for 15 minutes,
  3. Stir occasionally until the mix has thickened.
  4. Allow mixture to cool, then blend until smooth.

BONUS: if you prepare your BBQ Sauce in a well-seasoned iron skillet it fortifies your food with iron. However, according to experts, recipes including very acidic foods, like tomatoes and citrus juices, should not be cooked in cast iron until the cookware is highly seasoned. The high acidity of these foods will strip the seasoning and result in discoloration and metallic-tasting food. (source)
