Back in 2004, I decided to remove all gluten, sugar, and dairy from my family pantry. We were not going to knowingly eat anything that contained gluten. Eleven years ago, it was not as popular as it is now. There were no Wheat Belly Diets, Against All Grain books, or YouTube tutorials! I was the only person I knew who had given up gluten and people thought I was crazy. My brother-in-law visited us for a few days and nearly starved to death until finally he found the local Hardees Fast Food and enjoyed himself some good ole' biscuits and gravy. Gluten heaven right there folks.
Since then, gluten-free communities are everywhere. You can find many gluten-free options in restaurants and grocery stores. The door is wide open to go gluten-free now! I recommend doing a little research on your own before you make the dive into a gluten-free lifestyle, but it certainly can help with weight loss, and avoiding gluten helped my son to focus more in school. Whether you are a celiac, have Crohn's, or have inflammation, you and your doctor will need to decide which diet/lifestyle works best for you and your children. This is just what worked for me and my family. I avoid wheat, rye, and barley and I try to follow a whole foods diet. That's the easiest way to go gluten-free. If you try to buy a lot of processed foods you will find it slightly more challenging. If you have severe problems see a gastroenterologist.
